HoD's Message
Indigenous Knowledge (IK) holds immense value for societies striving to live in harmony with nature. It offers a wealth of information in fields like agriculture, medicine, governance, peacebuilding, and climate change adaptation. Despite its abundance, much of this knowledge remains under-researched and untapped by modern systems.
Recognizing this critical gap, Gada and Indigenous Knowledge Studies was established. This pioneering center actively works on researching and revitalizing Gada and IK, collaborating closely with communities to preserve and share this wisdom.
To unlock the full potential of this knowledge, broader participation is crucial. Concerned bodies across academia, government, and civil society should actively engage in researching and integrating IK into modern practices. By harnessing the power of Indigenous knowledge, we can build more sustainable and resilient communities that thrive in harmony with the environment.
Vision
To soar to international recognition by 2030, becoming a beacon of excellence within Mattu University.
Mission
To foster competent graduates who delve deep into the riches of Indigenous knowledge. Armed with expertise in areas like agriculture, medicine, governance, peacebuilding, and climate change adaptation, they will be empowered to provide multidimensional services to their communities under the guiding principles of the Gada system. Through their work, they will tackle diverse societal challenges, paving the way for a brighter future.
