About the Department
Established in 2018, the Department of Natural Resources Management at Mattu University understands the crucial role healthy ecosystems play in our lives. We believe in a holistic approach, integrating biological, social, economic, and policy aspects to manage our precious natural resources sustainably.
Our Program:

HoD’s Message
Welcome to the Department of Natural Resources Management!
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Natural Resources Management. Ethiopia is endowed with remarkable natural resources that sustain our environment, economy, and communities. At the same time, these resources face growing challenges, including deforestation, land degradation, climate change, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity. Addressing these challenges requires knowledgeable professionals, innovative research, responsible policies, and strong community engagement.
Our Department is committed to preparing the next generation of natural resource professionals who can understand these complex challenges and develop practical, integrated, and sustainable solutions. Through quality teaching, impactful research, practical training, and community service, we equip our students with the scientific knowledge, technical skills, critical thinking, and leadership capacity needed to make a meaningful contribution to Ethiopia’s sustainable development.
We believe that effective natural resource management goes beyond the classroom. It requires close collaboration with communities, government institutions, development partners, researchers, and other stakeholders. Therefore, we are dedicated to generating and sharing knowledge, supporting local communities, promoting sustainable resource use, and translating research findings into practical solutions that improve livelihoods and protect our environment.
