(PIRE):The 13th round graduation ceremony of Mettu University was held in a grand and colorful event, marking an important milestone in the university’s academic calendar. The ceremony began with a traditional blessing led by Abba Gedas, who prayed for peace across the land, harmony between humans and animals, and continued success for all graduating students. During this graduation round, a total of 1,739 students successfully completed their studies. Of these, 1,022 students graduated with a first degree, 76 students with a second degree, and 641 students with a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (PGDT).
In his opening address, the President of Mettu University, Dr. Alemu Disassa, warmly welcomed distinguished guests, including federal government officials, members of the University Board of Directors—Prof. Bekele Gutama and Dr. Dima Nogo—officials from various ministries, representatives from Ilu Aba Bor, Mattu City, and Bunno Bedele zones, members of the Senate, and other invited guests. Dr. Alemu emphasized the university’s key focus areas, noting that Mettu University not only equips students with academic knowledge and professional skills but also instills values of community service, environmental conservation, and the promotion of a peaceful social environment. He further encouraged graduates to apply their knowledge responsibly and serve their country with dedication and integrity.
The Deputy Chairperson of the University Board of Directors and guest of honor, Prof. Bekele Gutama, congratulated the graduates and reflected on the challenges and efforts that led them to this achievement. He encouraged them to become job creators, transform their lives positively, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The ceremony concluded with the recognition and awarding of students who achieved outstanding academic performance in their respective fields and at the university level.
