Mattu University successfully hosted an Outcome-Based Curriculum (OBC) Review, Validation Workshop and Stakeholder Forum at its Main Campus from July 29–31, 2026, reaffirming the University's commitment to improving the quality, relevance, and employability of its academic programs.
The workshop marked the second round of the University's curriculum review and validation process. During this phase, 17 academic programs developed by internal experts are being reviewed and validated by external reviewers, including distinguished professors and experts from various Ethiopian universities.
The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Education and Training Authority, different Universities, banks, industries, sector offices from Ilu Ababor and Buno Bedele Zones, and other key stakeholders. Their active participation and professional feedback are expected to strengthen the curricula, ensuring they are relevant, high-quality, and responsive to the evolving needs of the labor market and national development priorities.
In his opening address, Dr. Bedilu Teka, Vice Chancellor and Representative of the President, emphasized that the curriculum review and accreditation process is designed to align the University's academic programs with its mission and strategic focus areas. He noted that the initiative aims to transform traditional curricula into Outcome-Based Curricula (OBC), promote the efficient use of educational resources, and ensure that graduates acquire the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required by employers and industry.
Dr. Dirba Gemechu, Director of Academic Programs, explained that the workshop would run for three consecutive days. He also highlighted that during the first round of the process, 17 academic programs were successfully reviewed, validated, and certified by external experts. In this second round, another 17 academic programs are expected to complete the validation and certification process, further enhancing the quality, relevance, and outcome-oriented nature of the University's academic offerings.
