School Post Graduate Program

Mettu University (Meu), which was established in 2010 as one of nine youngest universities to meet the demand of the country’s fast growing needs for high level professionals. The university started its teaching learning process in December 2011, in two faculties: Engineering and natural and computational science by enrolling 294 students. The university was launched postgraduate program at Master’s degree level in 2016 academic year with a few students in the fields of Business and Economics. Since then, the University has gone through changes and launched about 17 postgraduate programs in various field of studies in line with the national development objectives. The postgraduate program is designed to meet the strategic goals of the country by providing affordable, accessible, and pedagogically-structured skilled manpower who will be engaged in innovative designing, problem solving research and technology transfer. In addition, with strong national and international networks and interaction support, the postgraduate and research programs at Mettu University can be offer candidates an opportunity to become specialists and leaders in their respective specialization. The program of Postgraduate Studies is also working collaboration with each department, school, institute and colleges and has a plan to launch new additional programs in MSc/MA including doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in the subsequent years.

Academic Requirements for Masters Programs

Accounting and Finance:     Candidates should havefirst degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, Banking and insurance, Banking and Finance, Business Education (Accounting, Banking and Insurance, Management), cooperative Accounting and Auditing and Management from the accredited Universities.

Master of Business Administration (MBA):  First degree in any field of study

Development Economics:  Applicants of this program are required to be graduates of economics, Statistics, agricultural Economics or any other related fields, which include basic courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics and Econometrics.

Afaan Oromo and Literature: BA/BED in Ethiopian languages, English, Afaan Oromo, folklore, literature, and linguistics

Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL):  BA or B. Ed in teaching English or BA in English non-teaching including English minors, linguistics, and literature fields from accredited higher learning institutions. In addition Bachelor’s degree in educational psychology, curriculum and pedagogical science.

Geography and Environmental Studies : Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Environmental studies or related fields such as Natural resource management, Environmental Science, Forestry, Geology (Earth Science), Agriculture, Economics, Biology (Ecology).

Educational Leadership and Management (EdLM) : Bachelor’s degree  in pedagogical sciences or similar education fields from a recognized  university.

Curriculum and Instruction: bachelor’s degree in pedagogical sciences or similar education fields from a recognized University

Educational Psychology: Bachelor of Art, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Education Degree in Psychology, B.ED Bachelor of Education in education or related areas, or equivalent

Master of Public Health (MPH): Minimum of first degree in health and health related fields (Public Health Officer, Nursing, Health Education, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Medicine, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, demography, anesthesia, health informatics and Sociology and social works ) with at least two years service in health sector.

Human Nutrition: Minimum of first degree in health and health related fields (BSc in food and nutrition science, Public Health Officer, Nursing, Health Education, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Medicine, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, and anesthesia and health informatics) with at least two years of service

Biology: BSc/B.Ed degree in biology and related disciplines (such as agriculture, horticulture,   forestry, animal sciences, natural resource management, environmental health, health sciences, etc.) from recognized higher learning institutions.

Chemistry: B.Sc. or B.Ed. degree in Environmental Chemistry/ Industrial Chemistry/Applied Chemistry/Chemistry Degree /Degree in Pharmacy, Agricultural Chemistry, Soil Chemistry and other related fields from a recognized University/Institute

Mathematics: BSc or BEd. Degree in Mathematics or an equivalent degree in mathematics Physics: B.Sc or equivalent degree in physics from recognized higher institution or related areas like mathematics, computer science, engineering, or equivalent disciplines in physics

Agro-economics: Bachelor degree in agricultural economics or related fields including, but not limited to, Agricultural and/or Natural Resource Economics, Economics, Development Economics, Agribusiness and value chain management        

Soil Science: Bachelor of Sciences degree or related fields that are equivalent in Soil Science, Soil and Water Conservation, Geology, Geography, Chemistry, Natural Resources Management, Plant Sciences, Horticultural Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Dry-land Agriculture, Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, Ecology, Rangeland Science and other related fields
