About the Department

Pharmacy Department Overview 

The Department of Pharmacy at Mattu University, under the College of Health Sciences, is a young, dynamic, and steadily expanding academic unit established in 2015 G.C. (2008 E.C.) as part of the University’s commitment to strengthening healthcare education and services. Beginning with an initial intake of 50 students, the Department has adopted a nationally harmonized pharmacy curriculum that aligns with national health priorities and internationally recognized academic standards. Its core mandate is to produce competent, ethical, and practice-ready pharmacy professionals capable of contributing effectively to patient care, pharmaceutical services, research, and the health system at large. Supported by motivated and multidisciplinary academic staff and enriched by an inspiring green and intellectually stimulating learning environment, the Department integrates teaching, research, and community engagement to foster innovation, professionalism, critical thinking, and lifelong learning, thereby responding to the evolving needs of healthcare and pharmaceutical service delivery  in Ethiopia and beyond.

HoD's Message

Dear Students, Academicians, and Esteemed Members of the Community,

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic and rapidly growing academic unit committed to excellence in education, research, and community service. Supported by a motivated and multidisciplinary staff and an intellectually stimulating environment, the department actively undertakes research addressing national and global healthcare priorities, including indigenous medicinal plant studies, pharmaceutical supply chain management, rational use of medicines, access to essential medicines, and multidisciplinary healthcare research.

Currently., the Department is teaching 214 regular students (168 undergraduate and 46 post-basic trainees) and has graduated 289 competent pharmacy professionals between 2013 and 2017 E.C., many of whom serve in diverse pharmacy roles within national and international organizations in Ethiopia and beyond. With a diverse student body drawn from across Ethiopia and neighboring countries such as South Sudan, the Department continues to strengthen its academic reputation and regional relevance. The Department warmly invites prospective students, academicians, researchers, and partners to join its vibrant academic community: contributing to problem solving research, quality education, and impactful community service while collectively advancing pharmaceutical science and strengthening healthcare systems in Ethiopia and beyond.
